Band Types…

  • High School Band

    • This is the typical type of marching band. It is composed of students from high schools consisting of 2, 3, or 4 grade levels.

    • We list these bands by the name of the high school, its city and state abbreviation.

  • Multiple-High Schools Band

    • Some marching bands combine students from more than one high school.

    • We list all participating schools and locations in the band's name after it’s commonly applied “short name.”

  • Multiple-Bands School

    • A few schools in Texas field more than one marching band, typically varsity and non-varsity bands.

    • We list each band separately with unique names but shared school information.

  • Varsity/Non-Varsity Composite Band

    • Especially in small-enrollment high schools, the marching band might additionally include students from other grades outside the high school level.

    • We don't differentiate these bands in name, but might note it in the conference or class designations for events.

  • Band with School Name Change(s)

    • Schools sometimes change names.

    • When this happens, we add the suffix "formerly" then include all previous school names in the marching band's full name. This helps avoid confusion when viewing historical events.

  • Band from Defunct School

    • Schools can close down.

    • In these cases, we include an asterisk ✽ in the marching band's name to indicate this status.
